Lakewood Ranch is a master-planned community of more than 35,000 acres in southeastern Manatee County and northeastern Sarasota County, east of Interstate 75.
Residents use it as a self-contained suburb, with shopping and dining in the town centers, a farmers' market at Waterside Place and golf and country clubs.
Lakewood Ranch is east of I-75 with interchanges at State Road 64, State Road 70, University Parkway and Fruitville Road. It is car-oriented, though trails link many villages, and Waterside Place connects to surrounding neighborhoods by trail and water taxi.
